The Myth of the ‘Perfect Time’
Why Waiting Is Keeping You Stuck
If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to start something—a dream project, a boundary, a shift you’ve felt brewing for a while—this one’s for you.
We’re taught to believe that someday we’ll be more ready.
More confident. More rested. More clear.
And sure, that day might come… but most of the time? It doesn’t. Not because you’re lazy or unmotivated—but because you’re human. And fear is sneaky.
Fear doesn’t always sound like fear. It sounds like:
“I’ll just wait until after this busy season.”
“I need to do more research.”
“Once I feel more confident, I’ll go for it.”
It sounds reasonable. But what it’s really doing is keeping you stuck.
The idea that you’ll eventually feel ready is one of the biggest lies keeping brilliant, creative, compassionate people from doing the thing they know they’re meant to do.
You don’t have to feel 100% sure.
You don’t need a flawless plan.
You don’t need permission.
You just need to start. Imperfectly. Intentionally. Now.
I had every intention of starting this blog years ago. Not one, not two—but three different coaches encouraged me to go for it. I had ideas. Drafts. A domain. A spark.
But something always held me back. The timing didn’t feel right. The “perfect moment” hadn’t arrived.
Now?
Now is not the perfect time for me.
I have a full-time career with a heap of growing responsibilities, a thriving creative hobby that eats up a lot of my brainspace, dogs who would really prefer I take them on a walk (like, now), plus family responsibilities and friendships I deeply value.
And yet... now feels like the only time—because it’s actually happening.
I’m sharing these messages with an audience made up of students, alumni, colleagues, clients, and potential clients… and it finally feels aligned. Not because everything’s perfect, but because I’m in a season of clarity, capacity, and desire. I have the space, the pull, and the courage to show up. That’s all I needed.
And maybe that’s true for you, too.
You don’t need to feel ready to begin
We think readiness is a feeling—but most of the time, it’s a choice. A shift. A moment of alignment where you say:
I’m doing this scared.
I’m doing this before I have it all figured out.
I’m doing this because I want a life that actually feels like mine.
Waiting for the “perfect time” is a trap.
Starting now—as you are—is the path to freedom.
If you’re standing at the edge of something new and wondering whether it’s time, try asking:
What have I been putting off until I feel more ready?
Is this really about timing… or am I afraid?
Do I have enough clarity, enough energy, and enough heart to begin?
You don’t need all the answers.
You just need enough to take the first step. And you are enough.
This is your sign
That project? That pivot? That conversation you’ve been avoiding?
This is your permission slip.
Start before you’re ready.
Start small.
Start with a shaky voice or a half-drafted plan.
Because now is a good time.
Because it’s your time.
Ready to go deeper?
This is the kind of work we do in 1:1 coaching—starting messy, living in alignment, and taking bold steps before everything feels “ready.”
